Alloy chilled cast iron rolls are one kind of cast iron rolls, which contain almost no free graphite in the matrix of working layer of the barrel. They have high hardness and excellent wearabillity, suitable to finish stands of light bar and wire rolling mills and narrow strip mills. Its microstructure is fine pearlite and carbides.
Thermal crack resistance
Generally, the main requirements of rough roll are strength and thermal cracking resistance. The working roll weight of the small 20-high mill is only about 100 grams, while the weight of the back-up roll of the wide and thick plate mill has exceeded 200 tons. When selecting a roll, first select the main material (various grades of cast iron, cast steel or forged steel, etc.) that is safe to carry according to the basic strength requirements of the rolling mill for the roll.
hardness
The finishing roll speed is high, the rolled final product must have a certain surface quality, the hardness, wear resistance and so on as the main requirements. Then consider the wear resistance of the roll when used. Because the wear mechanism of roll is very complicated, including mechanical stress, heat action, cooling action, chemical action of lubricating medium and other effects, there is no unified index for evaluating the wear resistance of roll. Because the hardness is easy to measure and can reflect the wear resistance under certain conditions, the wear resistance index of the roll is generally approximated by the radial hardness curve.
Impact resistance
In addition, there are some special requirements for the roll, such as a large amount of pressure, the roller is required to have a strong bite ability, more impact resistance;
Degree of finish
When rolling thin specification products, the rigidity, uniformity of microstructure, machining accuracy and surface finish of the rolls are required.
machinability
The cutting performance of the working layer of the roll body should also be considered when rolling the complex section steel.
When selecting rolls, some of the performance requirements of the rolls are often opposed to each other, and the purchase and maintenance costs of the rolls are very expensive, so the technical and economic advantages and disadvantages should be fully weighed, deciding whether to use cast or forged, alloy or non-alloy, single material or composite material.
